The Armstrong Shamrocks earned an early lead, but it didn’t last long as they fell 11-7 to the Kelowna Raiders in Thompson Okanagan Senior Lacrosse League play Wednesday night at Nor-Val Sports Centre.
The Shamrocks’ Jarrett Medhurst opened the scoring but the defending Shaw Cup champion Raiders scored the next four goals to take the lead.
Raiders continued to capitalize on Armstrong’s mistakes in the second period, extending their lead to 8-3 after 40 minutes. Medhurst and Steve Clark handled the Rocks’ attack.
The Shamrocks tried to mount a third-period rally, but every time they scored Kelowna would answer back. Medhurst, with his hat-trick goal, Brennan Plante, Braydon Sanders and Jamie Cockerill supplied the Armstrong offence in front of Brett Logan (35 saves). Ryan Brabender made 39 stops for the win. The 2-1 Raiders were led offensively by Victor Wiens (3G), Braden Renner (2G) and Pho Heng (2+1).
The 1-1 Shamrocks host the 1-2 Kamloops Rattlers in the second leg of a Lacrosseville twinbill at Nor-Val at 8 p.m.
The Baby Rocks host Kelowna at 6 p.m. All the game proceeds and 50/50 draws will be donated to the Huntington Society of Canada.
