Kelowna table tennis seniors win medals, invite others to play

Trio of players medal; regular games Monday, Wednesday, Friday in Kelowna

With over 3,000 competitors from across the province, the B.C. Seniors Game in Kamloops in August featured plenty of good, friendly competition including in table tennis events where some Kelowna seniors were among the winners.

A solid crew of seniors brought home a few medals in the table tennis event at the senior games, held Aug. 20 to 24 in Kamloops.

Table tennis medals were won in both recreational and competitive events.

Marilyn Bryant led the way, bringing home three gold medals.

Bryant claimed the gold medal in the recreational women’s 75 to 79 age category before claiming first place in a pair of doubles events winning gold medals in mixed doubles 70 to 74 age group as well as women’s doubles 70 to 74.

In the competitive men’s 70-74 division, Arthur Lo of Kelowna won the gold medal while Pauline Huang brought home the gold medal from the women’s 75 to 79 competitive division.

Table tennis players in Kelowna play Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Rutland Senior Centre and the same three days at the Parkinson Senior Centre from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

It’s open to seniors 55 and older who want to play or learn to play. Any skill level is welcome.
