Three Kelowna athletes are with Canada’s national women’s field hockey team this week in Mendoza, Argentina.
National team veterans Abigail Raye, Dani Hennig and Natalie Sourisseau will all play for Canada’s entry in the eight-team Pan Am Cup which runs Sept. 21 to 28.
The host Argentinians are ranked No. 2 in the world and a win at the Pan Am Cup would secure them a berth in the 2014 World Cup in Holland.
The Canadians are currently ranked 23rd in the world.
Raye is moving ever closer to the milestone of 100 caps (86) with Canada’s senior women’s squad. The 22-year-old defender is on track to become the youngest Canadian player ever to reach the century mark in caps.
While at KSS in 2009, Raye made her debut with the national team and has been a starter in every international match since.
Hennig, 22, a defender has 49 caps. Sourisseau, 20, who plays midfield has 41 caps.
All three women played with the KSS Owls girls field hockey program.
Upon their return from Argentina, the national team will leave for Australia in October for an International tournament designed to test rule changes.
The next major tournament will be the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland in 2014.
