Hometown runner Jeff Vogt showed the way at the 2018 edition of the Fresh Air Midsummer 8K run Sunday morning in Kelowna.
Vogt (M40-44) captured the seventh race of the season on the Interior Running Association circuit in a time of 27 minutes 47 seconds.
Vernon’s Aaron Heidt (M40-44) finished 12 seconds back in second spot in 27:59, while Kelowna’s David Guss took third in 28:08.
The first woman to finish was Penticton’s Christine Conibear (M40-44), taking 13th overall in 31:39.
In addition to Vogt and Guss, other age group winners from the Central Okanagan were: Quinn Middleton, Lake Country (M20-24); Joel Deleenheer, Lake Country (M45-49); Jayden Riley, Kelowna (M30-34); Vanessa Hardy, West Kelowna (F16-19); Igor Pichugin, Kelowna (M25-29; John Lopes, Kelowna (M65-69); Danielle Shand, Kelowna (F30-34); Cindy Rhodes, Kelowna (F60-64); Tiffany Fowler, Kelowna (F35-39); Chuck Abney, Kelowna (M60-64); Jill Watson, Kelowna (F60-64); and Diana Eacrett, West Kelowna (F50-59).
Following the Midsummer 8K, the IRA hosted the Strong Kids Race Series #2.
Next up on the IRA road series is the Kamloops Half Marathon on July 22.
