Kermodes roar in Eric Hamber tournament

The Kermodes claimed the first place trophy along with three individuals receiving individual accolades.

HERE’S Caledonia Kermodes coach Cam MacKay reporting in from the Eric Hamber Midtown Shootout Tournament in Vancouver, a tournment in which the team claimed victory.

After a long day of travelling and exams the Kermodes finally got on the court at 9 pm Jan. 25 to face David Thompson of Vancouver, says MacKay.

The team had a sluggish start but improved as they went along. Three weeks with out any high school competition was quite evident, said MacKay.

Kermodes took a nine point lead into the half time and slugged out a 62 – 44 win by the final horn.

The team had a balanced scoring attack lead by Marcus MacKay with 14, Aaron Anderson 12, Aidan Klein 9, Kynan Finnie and Kevin Brown with 7 each, Brennan Jay 6, Chad Dennis 5 and Patrick Kurek 2.

Aaron Anderson garnered player of the game honors.

On Jan. 26 the Kermodes played much better as they handled a scrappy Richmond Colts team in a 75-51 victory.

The Colts never gave up and connected on 9 treys to keep in range of making a come back.

The Kermodes held strong and once again had a balanced scoring attack with Aaron Anderson leading the way with 19 points, Marcus MacKay 18, Ethan Anderson and Kevin Brown with 10 each, Brennan Jay 9.

Marcus MacKay was given player of the game honors.

On January 27, the Kermodes took care of the Eric Hamber Griffins, 80-58.

Kermodes controlled the game from the start and took a 42 – 26 lead into the half time. The Griffins attempted to mount a come back but the Kermodes handled the pressure and increased their lead into the fourth quarter when the Kermode bench was unloaded for the last five minutes of the game.

Kermodes were lead by Kevin Brown and Marcus MacKay with 18 each, Aaron Anderson 12, Aidan Klein 11, Chad Dennis 9 and Brennan Jay 8.

Along with the win the Kermodes claimed the first place trophy along with three individuals receiving individual accolades.

Kevin Brown was named the player of the final game. Aaron Anderson and Kevin Brown received 1st All Star awards while Marcus MacKay was awarded the MVP of the tournament.

Kermodes will face the Walnut Grove Gators in Langley before heading home on Sunday. The Gators are currently ranked in the top 5 AAA.
