Kicking Horse Mountain Resort (KHMR) hosted three events this weekend after a record breaking snowfall during the week.
The mass amount of powder, combined with the Tiki Torch Dash, Avalanche Awareness Days and Demo Extravaganza created a buzz around the mountain last weekend, making it one of the busiest weekends for KHMR.
This winter storm cycle has dropped over 60cm of fresh snow between Thursday and Friday.
KHMR released this information in a press release earlier in the week:
“This snowfall system is probably the biggest snowfall the region has seen in 30 years,” said Steve Paccagnan, President and CEO of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.
Accumulations on the mountain were measured at a rate surpassing 6cm per hour. This snowfall built the mid-mountain base up to 175cm and made major contributions towards a record breaking snowfall season at KHMR. Season snowfall to date exceeds 380cm.
KHMR operation teams have been working non-stop to ensure as much alpine terrain can be opened as possible. Public are asked to respect temporary terrain management closures and be patient as safety work is being conducted on the mountain.
