Kid-friendly ski day at Shames

There were 175 children who skied and took lessons for free at the Port of Prince Rupert event

The snow never let up on Saturday for the Kid’s Ski and Ride for Free Day sponsored by the Port of Prince Rupert.

There were more than 600 people who made the drive up to Shames Mountain on Jan. 19 — 175 were kids who took advantage of the free lift tickets, free lessons and $10 rental packages.

“Over 75 free lessons were given away,” said Christian Theberge, general manager, My Recreational Mountain Cooperative, Shames Mountain.

“All in all the day truly was a great success. The day was held in recognition of the Port Authority’s contribution to our new snowcat. We are thrilled that the port decided to use their recognition day to offer free skiing and lessons. Skiing and Snowboarding are a great healthy outdoor winter activity that everyone should have the opportunity to discover and enjoy.”
