The Rockies were shut down twice last weekend by the Dynamiters

The Rockies were shut down twice last weekend by the Dynamiters.

In Columbia Valley on Friday, January 2nd, they were crushed 8 – 1. The Rockies posed a much bigger threat the following night in Kimberley, but saw their efforts outdone in the third period.

On Friday, Kimberley stole the first period with three unanswered goals. Rockies Braydon Barker gave his team their lone goal in the second period, while the Dynamiters increased their lead by another three. Kimberley scored twice more in the third to cap the score 8 – 1.

Rockies were outshot 45 – 17. Their assists went to Dario Piva and Nick Evdokimoff. On Kimberley, there were six players with two-point nights.

The following night, on the Dynamiters’ home turf, the Rockies started to make their opponents look like duds.

Less than five minutes in, Harrison Davis gave Columbia Valley the first goal of the game. Midway through the opening period, Kimberley scored once on the power play; and again shorthanded, to earn a 2 – 1 lead. But not long after, the Rockies answered back with a second goal by Davies.

The 2 – 2 tie wasnt broken until midway through the second period, when Barker scored his second in two nights to give the Rockies the go-ahead.

But their 3 – 2 lead couldn’t storm the third period. Kimberley tied the game while shorthanded, and when on to score four more unanswered goals, claiming victory with a score of 7 – 3.

Despite the score, the Rockies outshot their opponents 40 – 22. Assists on the Rockies went to Barker, Davies, and Malcolm Fenelon(2). Dynamiter Braden Saretsky scored four goals and an assist during the two games.

The Kelowna Chiefs were supposed to play a rescheduled game at the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena on Monday, January 5th, but again had to postpone due to poor weather conditions. The game will take place in Invermere before Sunday, February 15th.

This weekend, the Rockies are heading to Creston Valley to take on the Thunder Cats on Friday, January 9th, before coming home to battle the Princeton Posse on Saturday, January 10th. They’ll be at home again on Tuesday, January 13th, when the division-leading Fernie Ghostriders are in town. All games begin at 7:30 p.m.
