Austin Steger scored in the dying minutes of regulation as the Nelson Leafs shocked the Beaver Valley Nitehawks 4-3 in Fruitvale on Saturday.
Steger’s goal with just under four minutes left was his second straight game-saving score in two days. The defenceman scored in the final minute of Saturday’s game to force overtime and earn the Leafs a point in a loss to Castlegar.
Ryan Piva, Dale Howell and Andy Fitzpatrick also scored for Nelson (3-2-1), while backup goaltender Ben Kelsch earned his first KIJHL win with 30 saves.
Devin Ghirardosi, Bradley Ross and Dylan Heppler replied for the Nitehawks (3-3-1). Josh Breznik started in goal but was pulled after allowing three goals on 15 shots in the first period. Tallon Kramer took over and finished with 14 saves.
