The Nelson Leafs broke their three game losing streak today as they won against the Spokane Braves 2-0 on U.S. ice.
Leafs Jordan Davie scored for the Leafs less than a minute into the second period on a power play. Brendan Smith brought the score to 2-0 with an unassisted goal part way through the third, again during a power play.
The Leafs had an impressive number of shots on goal: 56 to the Braves’ 33. Leafs goaltender Joseph Barton earned his shutout.
The Braves took all of the five penalties in the final period.
The Leafs remain in the middle of the Neil Murdoch division with eight points, only one more than the Grand Forks Border Bruins and the Spokane Braves.
The Beaver Valley Nitehawks and the Castlegar Rebels are first and second with 14 points each.
The Nelson Leafs play the Golden Rockets (ranked last in the Eddie Mountain Division) this Friday, Oct. 9 at the Nelson and District Community Centre, 7 p.m.
