KIJHL: Three Leafs suspended following Friday’s brawl

Hulston, Miller and Sokol won't be on the ice for the foreseeable future.

The Nelson Leafs have lost three players to suspension after Friday’s fight-filled game.

Levi Hulston, Rayce Miller and Matt Sokol will each miss time for their parts in the line brawl that occurred during Nelson’s 5-3 loss to the Castlegar Rebels.

Hulston and Sokol will each miss the next five games and won’t be eligible to return until Feb. 14, while Miller’s two-game suspension will see him out until Feb. 9.

Castlegar also lost two players to suspension following the game. Tyler Barrett will miss two games for the brawl, while Daniel Petten was charged a two-game suspension for checking Miller from behind.

The Leafs are also missing Nicholas Ketola, who has served two of a three-game suspension for checking to the head and a game misconduct in the final 10 minutes of regulation on Jan. 16.

The suspensions mean Nelson will be severely shorthanded for its home game Friday against Castlegar. Forward Malcolm Fenelon left the team last week to address a health issue, defenceman Kyle Chernenkoff is out with a lower-body injury and backup goaltender Josh Williams recently underwent knee surgery.
