Two second period goals by Kimberley erased a 1-0 Beaver Valley lead, as the Dynamiters skated to a 3-2 victory on Saturday at the Beaver Valley Arena over the Nitehawks.
B.V. opened the scoring at 4:48 of the first, as Bradley Ross took a pass from Devin Ghiradosi and beat Kimberley goalie Cody Campbell for a 1-0 lead.
But the Dynamiters came back and tied it at 14:27 on the power play when Nolan Kurylo notched his ninth of the postseason. The Nitehawks fired 11 shots at Campbell in the middle frame but couldn’t beat him, and the Nitros grabbed the lead for good when Nic Herringer wired one by Hawks goalie Tallon Kramer to give Kimberley a 2-1 lead.
The Nitros defence stood tall in the third period limiting the Hawks to just nine shots, and Kimberley added an insurance market, after Kramer was pulled for an extra attacker with 1:20 to play in regulation. The Hawks Mitch Foyle brought the Hawks back within one scoring with 31 seconds remaining, but the last second equalizer eluded the Hawks on this night.
Foyle earned the player of the game for the Hawks, while Campbell won the honour for the Nitros with 27 saves. B.V. was 0-for-4 on the power play, while Kimberley went 1-for-4 and fired 21 shots at the Hawks net.
The Kootenay Conference Final goes to Kimberley for Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
