Kimberley skaters go on medal run at Castlegar Invitational

The Kimberley Skating Club is well into its season now and last weekend had a very successful outing at the West Kootenay Invitational in Castlegar. Head coach Lorinda Nelson and coach Lori Nelson were kept busy all weekend keeping track of the 56 Kimberley Skating Club entries at the meet.

The Kimberley Skating Club is well into its season now and last weekend had a very successful outing at the West Kootenay Invitational in Castlegar. Head coach Lorinda Nelson and coach Lori Nelson were kept busy all weekend keeping track of the 56 Kimberley Skating Club entries at the meet.

“We are very fortunate to have a thriving club right now and the number of competitive skaters is the largest it’s ever been,” said Lorinda Nelson. “The skaters skated really well and we were extremely happy with their performances this past weekend. What was clearly evident though throughout the entire weekend was the camaraderie amongst our club members and how they were so supportive of one another, cheering all weekend. They really did have fun but were also very focused on their own events, with many of them reaching their personal best scores.”

Podium results include thee golds for Geneva Miller, two silvers for Adrian Moody, a gold for Genevieve Edwards, two silvers and two golds for Julia Chalifour, a silver and a bronze for Kana Dolgopol, two silvers for Kate Moody, two silvers and a bronze for Lauren Hehn, a silver for Kendra DeBruyne, a gold for Makala Ballard, a bronze for May Doerksen, two silvers and a gold for Natalia Deutsch, a gold for Piper Silliphant-Chalabi, a gold, silver and bronze for Pyper Standing, two bronze and a silver for Sailor Ferrier, a bronze for Sydney Rollheiser, a silver for Sydney Biddlecombe, three silvers for Tabbatha Trembly and a bronze and a silver for Bahra Virushea.

This weekend several skaters and the coachers are heading to Alberta for the Calgary Region Invitational in Okotoks.

“On January 11th our entire group of Starskaters will be attending the East Kootenay Invitational Competition in Invermere with 72 entries. Our Canskate and PrePowerskate Program will be breaking on Dec. 16th following our Skate-A-Thon and Christmas Family Skate at the Civic Center. Canskate and PrePowerskate will resume in the New Year and registration is open online at www.kimberleyskating.com for any skater wanting to join us in this great learn to skate program endorsed by Skate Canada,” Nelson said.
