KISL top awards handed out

The Kaien Island Slo Pitch League handed out the hardware at its awards banquet on Saturday.

Frank’s Auto took first place in the regular season A division, with the Brew Jays coming in second. Miranda Shaw was named Female MVP, and Cody Forsell was the Male MVP.

In the B division, the Diamond Devils won the regular season and the eventual playoff winners, the Crest Angels, were second.

Matina Sampare won the Female MVP and Steven Skinner claimed the Male MVP award.

Turning to playoff trophies, the MacCarthy GM Leftovers took top honours in the A league, beating out second-place Frank’s Auto.

Darryl Anderson was named the Female Playoff MVP and Leftovers’ pitcher Steve Joseph won the Male MVP for the playoffs.

In the B division, the Crest Angels beat out CityWest Breeze for the division title. Alison O’Toole was awarded the Female MVP for the postseason, with Steve Eso taking the Male MVP honours.

The league also handed out awards for character and sportsmanship. Amanda Hagens was singled out as the Most Inspirational Female  and Steven Eso was named the Most Inspirational Male, making him the only player to win two individual awards.

The Billie Jean Memorial Trophy for outstanding young player was won by Caden Pagens.

The Ridley Islanders were named the Most Sportmanlike Team and Lloyd Yeomans the Most Sportmanlike  Player.

Awards were also handed out for winning the three tournaments throughout the year. Frank’s Auto won all three, the Ice Breaker at the beginning of the year, the Patty Hutcheon Memorial Mid-season Tournament and the Seafest Tournament.
