The KISU swim club sent 24 swimmers to the LLSC Winter Jamboree held December 6, 2014 in West Kelowna.
Four members of KISU, Ashlyn Alva ,8, Kalena Bews, 10, Talan Dekleva, 7 and Connor Powell, 7, competed for the firs time. David Archibald, Austin Follestad and Leland Mullin cut times from their respective swims. Archibald, 9, shaved 31.61 seconds off his 200-m freestyle, while Follestad took off nearly 29 seconds in the same event and Mullin nearly 21 in the 50-m fly.
KISU also had Madeline Blade, 10, completing the 200 I.M. in 3:53:90. Madeline will now compete at sanctioned swim meets.
“KISU swimmers did fantastic this weekend. There was so much energy and enthusiasm … I am really impressed with how well the swimmers are doing in the water at this point in the season,” said coach Anne Benn. “The first thing to doing a sport well is learning to love the sport, and all of these young swimmers have demonstrated that passion.”
The club will be travel to the Kamloops MJB Law Classic Dec. 11–15. Swimmers competing in the meet would have had to have an “A” time or faster to qualify.
The club also announced swimmers of the month for November. The club recognizes swimmers from each group based on attendance, improvement and attitude.
“November was a big month for the recipient of the “swimmer of the month” award,” said coach Tina Hoeben. “KISU ran a distance week, and almost all the swimmers who received the award would have had to be impressive in their commitment and/or attitude towards distance week.”
Recipients are Liam Wallich, Chelsea Keeler, Austim Follestad, Madeline Blade and Monty Pace, Elizabeth Hannah, Brooklyn Busch and Nathan Michael.
