Kitimat curler Taylor Reese-Hansen and her team will be one of the four teams competing at the 2019 BC Junior Curling Championships in Vernon from December 27 to January 1.
Reese-Hansen, Catera Park, Jordan Koster and Sydney Brilz secured their place in the champs after coming second in the BC Junior Women’s Tour with 279.75 points, winning the Rick Cotter Memorial. They will be looking to defend their title of BC Junior Women’s Champions at the championships.
The BC Junior Women’s Tour ended over the Remembrance Day long weekend with the Optimist Junior Cashspiel at Esquimalt Curling Club.
Team Reese-Hansen will head to the championships along with three other teams, another women’s team and two men’s teams.
Langley and Victoria’s Team Tardi (Tyler Tardi, Sterling Middleton, Matthew Hall, Alex Horvath), came first in the BC Junior Men’s Tour with 260 points, followed by Richmond and Royal City’s Team Carpenter (Brayden Carpenter, Matthew McCrady, Zane McLeod, Branden Reimer) which came in with 244 points, just 16 points behind Team Tardi.
The other women’s team is Delta’s Team Daniels (Sarah Daniels, Kayla MacMillan, Jessica Humphries, Sarah Loken), which claimed the top spot in the BC Junior Women’s Tour with 365 points.
The team won the Parksville Junior Cashspiel, the Anita Cochrane Memorial, and the Optimist Junior Cashspiel. Daniels will be aiming to return to the top of the podium at the BC Junior Curling Championships, which she last won in 2016.
The remaining six junior men’s teams and six junior women’s teams that will be competing in the 2019 BC Junior Curling Championships will be determined at the junior playdowns.
The junior regional playdowns will be taking place from November 30 to December 2, with the junior open playdown taking place from December 7 to 9.
