Morgan Johnston scored twice as the North Okanagan Knights stopped the Kamloops Storm 5-3 Friday night at McArthur Island Sports Centre.

The Knights, who faced the expansion 100 Mile House Wranglers Saturday night, went to 4-0-0-1 atop the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Okanagan Division.

“Our depth was evident,” said Knights’ head coach Shawn Webb. “They couldn’t roll lines with us and we outplayed them five-on-five. They scored two powerplay goals and one shorthanded.”

Rookie Ryan Kelm, with his first goal, Anthony Ruggiero and Dryden Profeit completed the offence in front of a dynamic Zach Dyment (32 saves).

“I never heard them announce any stars, but Zach should have been the first, second and third star,” said Webb. “He was unconscious.”

Johnston, a late cut by the BCHL West Kelowna Warriors, has four goals in three games. Newly-signed captain TJ Christensen tossed one heavy hit and drew one assist.

Josh Rassmussen, Felix Larouche and Max James replied for the 5-1 Storm.

Mitch Profeit, a Prince George product, was expected to start in goal in 100 Mile.
