Knights, Kodiaks return to win column

Langley and Aldergrove junior B hockey clubs both rediscover winning ways

The Langley Knights snapped their longest winless streak of the season, downing the Port Moody Panthers 7-3 on Saturday night.

The Knights had gone four games without a victory (0-3-1-0) before winning at the Port Moody Arena. Langley had lost 5-4 in overtime the game before to the Richmond Sockeyes on Nov. 6 at the Minoru Arena.

Colin Catchpole led the way with a hat trick and four points.

Donovan Shambeau (two goals, one assist), Jackson Surbey (one goal, two assists), Levi De Waal (three assists), Carson Rose (one goal, one assist) and Joshua Smith (two assists) all had multi-point games.

Nickolas Trenciansky stopped 25 shots for the win.

The Knights led from start to finish.

In the team’s previous game, Langley was up 4-1 and 20 minutes away from winning against Richmond, but surrendered three goals in the third period and the overtime winner to lose 5-4.

Catchpole, Surbey and Dylan McCann each had a goal and an assist in the loss while De Waal had one goal.

Trenciansky stopped 45 shots as Langley.

The three points extend the Knights’ lead ato PJHL’s Harold Brittain Conference with a record of 10-6-1-1 and 22 points, five ahead of second-place Abbotsford.

The team is back in action when they complete their home-and-home series with Port Moody at the George Preston Recreation Centre on Thursday.

Two wins in three games last week helped the Aldergrove Kodiaks snap a nine-game winless streak.

The Kodiaks improved to 5-7-2-4 after edging the Richmond Sockeyes 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday and the Grandview Steelers 2-1 in regulation on Sunday.

Sandwiched in between was a 6-1 loss to the North Vancouver Wolf Pack on Saturday.

In the first of the three games, Elvis Jansons scored on the power play 3:14 into the extra session to give the Kodiaks their first win since Sept. 30.

Jordan Funk had the other Aldergrove goal and Ben Giesbrecht stopped 31 shots for the win.

Playing North Vancouver, PJHL’s top team, on the road, Dylan Geiger had the lone Kodiaks score, and it came with his team down 6-0 early in the third period.

But Aldergrove bounced back playing the next afternoon at the Burnaby Winter Club as Jeremy Lagler snapped a 1-1 tie in the third period.

Funk had the other Kodiaks goal and Griffin Baillie stopped 14 shots for the win.

The Kodiaks are back in action on Nov. 12 when they host the Ridge Meadows Flames at the Aldergrove Arena.
