Knights on brink of elimination

Langley faces must-win game six as Mission City leads best-of-seven playoff series 3-2

A third straight defeat has the Langley Knights on the brink of elimination.

The Knights fell 3-2 to the Mission City Outlaws in game five of the PJHL quarter-final series on Monday night at Langley’s George Preston Recreation Centre.

Game six goes tonight (Tuesday) at the Mission Leisure Centre and should the Knights prevail, the junior B hockey clubs would play a seventh and deciding game on Thursday (Feb. 26) at the Preston Centre.

Langley had won games one and two 3-1 and 7-5, respectively, but Mission City has come roaring back in games three through five.

The Outlaws won game three 4-3 and game four 5-3.

In game five, Sammy Zeinab and Bryce Pisiak put the visitors ahead 2-0 after one period. David McGowan’s power-play goal made it 3-0 with five minutes to go in the second before Oliver Alcock finally got the home side on the board with 2:22 to go in the middle frame.

The Knights threw 14 shots on Outlaws goaltender Jeffrey Veitch in the final 20 minutes, but only Carson Rose was able to beat him. Unfortunately, that goal came with 22 seconds to play and the Knights had little time to net the equalizer.

Final shots were 37-34 for Langley.

Nickolas Trenciansky returned to goal for the Knights after getting pulled in game three.
