Kodiaks aim for bronze medal at provincials

The Aldergrove Kodiaks are headed for the bronze elimination round at the Cyclone Taylor Cup in Creston after an overtime 1-2 defeat against the Campbell River Storm Saturday afternoon.

The Storm’s win qualifies the team for the gold and silver medal game Sunday evening at Creston community centre, while the Kodiaks will play the bronze-fourth place game in the afternoon.

Two Kootenay teams, the Beaver Valley Nitehawks and Creston Valley Thunder Cats are playing Saturday evening to determine their spots in the final elimination rounds.

The Kodiaks had been up 1-0 over the Storm in the second period but the Storm evened it up in the third and took the win at four minutes into the first overtime.

Aldergrove’s Quinncy Leroux scored the Kodiaks’ only goal on an unassisted power play.

The Storm outshot the Kodiaks in every period for a game total of 46 to 25.

The Storm scored on one of ten power plays while the Kodiaks scored on one of five.

The Kodiaks’ only win at the provincial championship was over the Nitehawks, 5-3. The Kodiaks lost their first game against the host Thunder Cats, 0-2.

The Storm also lost their first game in the round robin series against the Nitehawks, 0-6, but defeated the Thunder Cats in game two, 6-2.
