It was a great night for Aldergrove Kodiaks rookie goalie Holden Davidson

It was a great night for Aldergrove Kodiaks rookie goalie Holden Davidson against the Surrey Knights, Oct. 5.

It was his first start of the regular season for Davidson, stopping 21 shots on his net by the Knights. He had previously tended the net in two exhibition game wins, as well as stepped in midway through the Kodiaks-North Vancouver Wolf Pack tilt Sept. 24 to turn the game around for a 7-5 win.

Davidson, who turned 17 last month, played for the Aldergrove Minor Hockey Midget House team last year and has also served as a volunteer at Kodiaks games for the past three years.

The Kodiaks opened the scoring in the first period, with one from Cameron Davitt, assisted by Derian White and Jacob De Waal. De Waal is another AMHA product who played on the provincial championship Aldergrove Midget team last season.

The Kodiaks had several tense minutes early in the second period when four consecutive penalties had them at a two-man disadvantage to the Knights. They managed to kill that Knights power play and shortly after the 15 minute mark Kodiak Kurt Klimek scored the game’s second goal. His assist came from Erik Bocale.

The Kodiaks scored two more in the third period for the 4-0 win. Scorers were Quinncy Leroux (from Matt Oliver and Eric Callegari) and Clayton Schroeder on a power play (from De Waal and Davitt).

Davitt, Oliver and Klimek were the game’s first, second and third stars, respectively.

The result puts the Kodiaks at 12 points after nine games (6-3-0-0).

The Kodiaks travel to Port Moody Oct. 8 to take on the Panthers and host the Grandview Steelers at Aldergrove Arena, Oct. 12, 7:15 p.m.

The Kodiaks follow that with a trip to North Surrey Oct. 13 to play the Knights, and then host the Delta Ice Hawks, Oct. 19, 7:15 p.m.

Aldergrove Minor Hockey product Holden Davidson earned a shutout in his first start for Aldergrove Kodiaks, stopping 21 shots in 4-0 win over Surrey Knights Oct. 5.
