The Aldergrove Kodiaks scored five power play goals in a 6-4 win over the Port Moody Panthers at Port Moody Arena Saturday night, Dec. 13.
The Kodiaks outshot the Panthers 50-21 and scored on five of 12 power plays, while the Panthers got one out of four power plays that night. Kodiaks’ keeper Griffin Baillie stopped 17 of the Panthers’ 21 shots on his net.
The Kodiaks were up 2-1 at the end of the first period, with scoring from Quinncy Leroux and Joshua Poitras on a power play. Assists came from Brandon Dolby and Aaron Markin, and Spencer McHaffie and Elvis Jansons, respectively.
The teams scored one apiece in the second to keep Aldergrove in the lead. Scorer for the Kodiaks was Eric Callegari on a power play, from Eric Wieking and Jordan Funk.
The third period saw two goals from the Panthers’ Daniel Szpakowski from Mark Fletcher, and three more power play goals from the Kodiaks. Scorers for the Kodiaks were Cameron Davitt from Callegari and Funk, Jansons from Evan Cusmano and Poitras, and Wyatt Versluis from Markin and Brandon Dolby.
Star of the game were Aldergrove Kodiaks’ Jordan Funk and Brandon Dolby for first and second, and third star to Panthers’ Szpakowski.
The results keeps the Kodiaks in second place in the Harold Brittain conference with 30 points after 27 games (12-9-2-4). Langley Knights lead with 32 points after 28 games, and the Abbotsford Pilots follow at 30 points after 28 games.
The Kodiaks host the Tom Shaw conference-leading North Vancouver Wolf Pack Dec. 17 at Aldergrove Arena, and play the Knights the following night, Dec. 18 at Preston Arena. The Kodiaks travel to Ladner Leisure Centre on Dec. 23 to play the Delta Ice Hawks before Christmas break, then host the Ridge Meadows Flames at a Monday night home game at Aldergrove Arena, Dec. 29, puck drop 7:15 p.m.
