Aldergrove Kodiaks captain Aaron Markin scored the winning goal in the second overtime period Wednesday night, Nov. 26 at Aldergrove Arena.
The Kodiaks were up 4-1 over the visiting Abbotsford Pilots at the end of the first period, however, the Pilots came back to score three unanswered goals in the second.
The 4-4 score stood through all of the third period and the first overtime.
First period scorers for the Koddiaks were Quinncy Leroux and Jordan Funk, with a pair each, followed by Markin’s OT goal. Assists came from Elvis Jansons (2), Funk, Evan Cusmano (2), Eric Callegari and Cameron Davitt (2).
The Kodiaks outshot the Pilots 47-21 but were unable to score on three power plays while the Pilots scored on two of five.
Kodiaks keeper Griffin Baillie stopped seven of 10 shots in 25:28 of play, and backup Ben Giesbrecht stopped 10 of 11 in the remainder of the game.
Leroux and Funk were first and second stars of the game, respectively.
The result puts the Kodiaks at 20 points after 21 games (7-8-2-4) in the Harold Brittain conference, four points behind the Pilots and eight points behind the Langley Knights. Mission Outlaws and Ridge Meadows Flames follow at 18 and 16 points, respectively.
The Kodiaks have two away games this weekend, Friday at Ridge Meadows and Saturday at Mission, before hosting the Port Moody Panthers Dec. 3, 7:15 p.m. at Aldergrove Arena.
The Kodiaks travel to Abbotsford on Dec. 5 and host the Knights on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 7:15 p.m.
