The Aldergrove Kodiaks struck for a season-high nine goals as they fanned the Ridge Meadows Flames 9-2.
The victory improved Aldergrove to 5-4-0-0 and 10 points while the Flames fell to 1-9-0-0 and two points in the Pacific International Junior Hockey League’s Harold Brittain Conference.
The junior B hockey clubs faced off at Planet Ice on Friday night and the visiting Kodiaks took control early with a five-goal first period.
Aldergrove scored a pair of goals apiece in the second and third periods.
Thomas Hardy and Colton Precourt paced the attack with two goals each, while Alex Feighan played set up man with four assists. Hardy also had one helper.
Darcy Rai, Brandon Potomak and Matthew Luongo had a goal and an assist apiece, while Josiah Friesen and Stephen Ryan chipped in with a goal each.
Coleman Foisy had two assists.
Mark Menicucci made 26 saves for the victory.
Aldergrove will look for a third straight victory when they host the North Delta Devils (4-4-0-0) on Oct. 26 at the Aldergrove Arena.
Panthers downed in overtime
An overtime goal by Aldergrove Kodiaks’ Robert Jang lifted the hometown boys out of a two-game losing slump.
It was a great night for the PIJHL Kodiaks as they overcame a 3-0 deficit at the end of the second period against the division-leading Port Moody Black Panthers, Oct. 19 at Aldergrove Arena.
The Panthers opened the scoring on a power play late in the first and scored two more in the second before Aldergrove’s newly-signed Alex Feighan turned the tide at 15:15, assisted by Ryan Veillet and Thomas Hardy.
Josiah Friesen added another in the final minute of the second, assisted by Robert Jang and Coleman Foisy, to end the period at 2-3 for the Kodiaks.
The Kodiaks added two more in the third to tilt the score 4-3 in their favour. Thomas Hardy scored on a power play at 2:57, assisted by Matthew Luongo and Jang and Scott Mackey another at 11:59, assisted by Foisy and Colton Precourt.
The Panther got two more to go up 5-4, but in the final minute Feighan evened it up with help from Jang and Precourt, setting the stage for overtime.
Jang scored the clincher at 2:47 in overtime, assisted by Foisy and Hardy, to end the game at 6-5.
Hardy and Jang were the game’s first and second stars, respectively, with third star going to Panther Julian Klaric. Hardy also moved into fourth place in the league’s scoring leaders.
It was a good hard-fought game with both teams taking 47 shots on goal apiece, as well as a fairly even share of the penalties.
The Kodiaks now have a 4-4-0 record after eight games and eight points for third place in the division.
