The Aldergrove Kodiaks defeated the league’s top team, the Delta Ice Hawks, at the Ladner Leisure Centre on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

The Kodiaks notched a goal in each period with the Hawks only scoring in the third for the Kodiaks’ 3-1 victory.

Both of the Kodiaks’ first and second period goals were on power plays, and both were scored by the game’s first star, Adam Callegari. Assists went to Jeremy Lagler and Kenny Prato, and Stephen Ryan and Joshua Cronin.

The Hawks’ Brent Chreptyk scored their only goal five minutes into the third, and Kodiaks’ Stephen Ryan closed the scoring at 17:32 that night.

Ryan’s goal and assist earned him the game’s second star, as well as kept him the league’s scoring leader position with 33 points in 18 games. Prato is third in the league with 28 points in 18 games.

Aldergrove never gave the Hawks a man advantage and stayed out of the penalty box until 18:12 of the third, when matching penalties were handed to Kodiaks’ Joshua Cronin and Hawks’ Spencer Schoen for unsportsmanlike conduct.

However, the Hawks gave the Kodiaks a two-minute power play in each period, and the first two cost them the game.

The result pushes the Kodiaks to 26 points after 18 games (12-4-0-2), just one point behind the Harold Brittain conference’s leader, the Abbotsford Pilots. The Hawks lead the Tom Shaw conference with 28 points after 19 games, three points ahead of the Richmond Sockeyes.

The Kodiaks host the Hawks tonight, Nov. 13 at Aldergrove Arena; puck drop at 7:15 p.m.

The Kodiaks host Port Moody Panthers on Nov. 20 and travel to MSA Arena to play the Abbotsford Pilots on Friday, Nov. 22.
