Vernon Kokanee reeled in 10 long-course club records at the June Swim Classic meet last weekend in Kamloops.
Asia Minnes, competing in the Under 10 Girls division, set new benchmarks in the 200-metre butterfly (three minutes, 25.89 seconds) and 400 IM (6:25.57).
Zac Benn earned five records in the 11-12 Boys class – 200 fly (2:27.95), 50 freestyle (28.66), 200 backstroke (2:29.71), 50 fly (30.32) and 100 fly (1:07.26).
Florian Terpstra clocked a new club standard in the Over 15 Boys 50 breaststroke (33.13), and Meredith Levorson set new times in the 13-14 Girls 50 free (28.51) and 50 fly (31.66).
A trio of Kokanee reached the B.C. AA long course time standard – Landon Hampshire (200 breast, 3:16.89), Kelsey Fillion (50 free, 34.64) and Abbey Bartel (100 breast 1:35.25). They qualify for B.C. AA championships, June 21-23, in Victoria.
Wouter Terpstra made the senior national standard in the 200 fly with a personal best 2:07.73. He will compete at summer nationals, July 17-20, in Montreal.
Kiah Lee earned her second and third age-group national standards in the 15 Girls 400 IM (5:18.22) and 100 breast (1:16.55), qualifying her for Canadian age-group championships, July 24-29, in Montreal.
Earning gold medals at the June Classic were: Benn (200 fly, 50 free, 50 breast, 50 fly, 100 fly and 200 IM); Fillion (50 free); Levorson (100 free, 200 free); Minnes (100 back, 200 free, 100 fly, 50 back); and Wouter Terpstra (400 IM, 100 fly).
Silver medals went to: Benn (200 back, 200 breast); and Wouter Terpstra (200 fly, 200 IM)
Swimming to bronze medals were: Lee (200 breast); Levorson (200 fly, 50 free) and Regan Peace (100 back, 13-14 Boys).
Kokanee improving in each of their events include: Erin Brown, Fillion, Indigo Freeman, Kay Freeman, Hampshire, Braden Kersey, Anika Kintzel, Levorson, Emily Mohamed Martone, Alexandra Shortt, Chase Walthers, Morgan Walthers, Jaalah Ward, Kiah Ward and Liam Williamson.
The Kokanee, coached by Renate Terpstra and Tara Taylor, finished fourth out of 22 clubs in the team event.
