Sensei Robert Griechen from the Kokoro Judo Club in 100 Mile House has just been promoted to the rank of Rokudan (sixth degree black belt) by Judo Canada.
This is in recognition of Sensei Griechen’s long career in judo, his dedication to the sport, and superior knowledge and understanding of the art of judo, says local Sensei Ian Briggs.
“There are very few people who reach this rank, and Sensei Griechen is the only judoka of this rank north of Kamloops.
In celebration of this achievement, the Kokoro Judo Club will be hosting a belt presentation at the club (in the old Pfanner building on Alpine Avenue) on May 7 at 11 a.m.
Clubs from around the Central Interior have been invited to attend.
Off to Canadians
Kokoro judokas Wylan Hall and Adam Sullivan will be going to the Canadian National Judo Championship in Calgary, Alberta, May 12-16.
Both will be competing in the U-16 age group, Hall in U60 kilograms; Sullivan in U73 kg.
Both are training hard and looking forward to the Nationals, Briggs says, adding both are back from a successful Inter-Provincial Training Camp in Canmore, Alta. with Team BC, April 15-17.
Bronze medal
Sullivan placed third (bronze medal) at the recent Edmonton International Championships.
