Kong comes up big in debut, shuts down Knights

Abbotsford pulls within five points of first-place Langley

Making his first PJHL start, Abbotsford Pilots goaltender Alexander Kong came up big, making 38 saves in a 4-2 victory over the Langley Knights.

The win pulls the Pilots within five points of Langley for top spot in the PJHL’s Harold Brittain Conference.

The two junior B hockey rivals hit the ice at the George Preston Recreation Centre on Thursday (Nov. 20) night.

And it was the Pilots who got off to the quick start, scoring twice in the opening 3:42 with Mark Ledlin and Devon Becker both beating Cole Forbes.

Oliver Alcock got the Knights on the board early in the third but Kolten Grieve restored the two-goal lead for the visitors shortly after.

Caleb Vilio made it 3-2 after 40 minutes but Mateo Toledo has the only goal of the third period.

Langley outshot Abbotsford 40-32 in the game.

The loss leaves the Knights with a record of 12-7-1-1 and 26 points while Abbotsford is second at 10-9-0-1 and 21 points.

Langley is back in action on Nov. 22 as they travel to North Vancouver to take on the league-leading Wolf Pack (18-1-0-2).
