Kootenay Savings Super League – Dramatic finish for Horning

Three games were on tap last week in the Kootenay Savings Super League.

Three games were on tap last week in the Kootenay Savings Super League, including a great match-up between the two top teams, Deanne Horning’s 5N-Plus rink versus Myron Nichol and his West Kootenay Mechanical squad.

The billing lived up to the hype as Horning made several big runbacks during the game when it looked as though Nichol would surely steal points.

Trailing by one point in the ninth end Nichol made a spectacular, come around draw to the button to tie the game going into the tenth frame, but Horning was not to be denied as he made a hit an stick to win 5-4.

The game between Desiree Schmidt and Rob Ferguson was also a hard fought battle, as the Schmidt foursome kept constant pressure on the Ferguson team as they built up a 10-8 lead through nine ends, and held last rock advantage going home.

Ferguson did not give in though, as his team played a near perfect 10th end to sit three with last rock to come. Schmidt made no mistake, as she tapped a rock right to the button to seal the deal, 11-8.

The final match between Russ Beauchamp and his Maglios Men’s squad and the Ken Fines rink combined for three five enders. Beauchamp was trailing 11-1 when he made an amazing triple split to score a five ender, to cut the deficit, but Fines kept control and forced an early finish. Make the final Fines 13 Maglios 6.

Kootenay Savings Super League resumes Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Trail Curling Club.
