Kozak 42nd in Swiss Worlds

Vernon’s Conner Kozak placed 42nd at the 15th World University Golf Championship in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

Vernon’s Conner Kozak placed 42nd at the 15th World University Golf Championship in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

He shot a 72-84-72-76 to give him a four-day total of 304, 26 shots behind the champion, Gerardo Ruiz of Mexico. There was a field of 71.

Kozak was part of a six-man team that represented Canada.

The Canadian team finished fifth, as they shot nine over par with a four-day total of 873.

Kozak’s UBC Thunderbirds teammate, Scott Secord of Calgary, finished tied for 10th. He shot 70-71-74-74, 11 shots behind Ruiz.

Megan Woodland of Victoria tied for 23rd in the women’s portion at 74-73-74-79-300, while Brynn Tomie of Bedford, N.S. shared 43rd spot at 73-79-80-79-311.

Tiffany Chan of Hong Kon won at 2-under 70-69-68-71-278. There was a field of 62 players.

Meanwhile, Vernon’s Mackenzie Barrie shot a  third-round 78 Thursday in the B.C. Junior Girls Championships at The Dunes in Kamloops.

Barrie, who just finished a stellar freshman season with the University of Wyoming Cowgirls, was alone in 16th place at 232 heading into Friday’s final round.

She opened with a 78 and followed with a 76.

Alix Kong of West Vancouver, Kathy Lim of Langley and Naomi Ko of Victoria will be in the final grouping today.

Kong was at 7-under 69-73-70-212. Lim and Ko were both one stroke back. Alisa Lau of Richmond was fourth at 217. There is a field of 48 with 18 missing the cut.
