Kwalikum Secondary School’s golf team took to the greens at Pheasant Glen Golf Resort in Qualicum Beach Wednesday, gunning for its third straight Island title.
Final scores from the provincial qualifier were unavailable at press time, but worth noting is that the Kondors were coming off another tournament win (their fourth first place finish in six tournaments so far this year) — this one an eight-team open at ‘the Glen May 8.
The Kondors clinched the 18-hole tourney with a team total 297.
Kwalikum’s Santiago Bouyra led the field with a stellar four-under par 68 in that one, which included eagles on holes one and nine.
“That’s some good golf,” KSS teacher/coach Butch Gayton said after, making the point “and we were playing from the blues (tees) which were well back.”
Rounding out the win for KSS were Scott Austin (75); Blair Stewart (76) and Masato Wilson (78).
The Stags from Shawnigan Lake finished second at 324, and Highlands’ Raiders third at 326.
On Monday four members of Gayton’s team squared off over 18 holes vying for the final two spots on the team of five that will represent KSS at the Island Championships.
The tournament features a field of eight teams with the top two teams moving on to the B.C.’s at Arbutus Ridge in Cobble Hill May 26-28.
