The Kwalikum Secondary School senior boys soccer team got off to a good start in league play, earning a 5-0 win at home against the Ladysmith 49ers last week.
Played out under sunny skies, the Kondors jumped out with an early goal from international student Godai Seki and never looked back, putting up four more unanswered goals to walk away with their first league win of the season.
Daniel Doukakis added two goals and Blair Stewart and Jake Whittenburg rounded out the scoring for the Kondors.
“We play an interesting style of game,” head coach Butch Gayton said. “We’ve got a few kids playing house league soccer and some on the VIPL team too, so there’s lots of adjustments being made in terms of having to re-configure the way to play for those kids.”
“They do a good job of making that transition though and hopefully we’ll continue to see that as we move along in our league play.”
The Kondors are back in action this afternoon (Oct. 6, 3:30 p.m. kickoff) against the Wellington Wildcats at the Qualicum Beach Rec. Field.
