Under the guidance of new head coach Darren Semeniuk and assistant Heather Semeniuk, the KSS Owls finished a solid fourth overall in their first tournament of the senior girls basketball season in Abbotsford.

The Owls posted a 2-2 record at the Skyline Invitational last weekend at the University of Fraser Valley.

KSS won its opener 63-45 over the Riverside Secondary Rapids, with Abby Cullen and Rachel Hare contributing 11 points each.

Alley Corrado came away with 10 steals, five assists and six points, while Courtney Donaldson had four steals, three assists and eight points to earn player of the game.

In their seccond game, the Owls knocked off No. 3-ranked Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers 62-57. Donaldson led with 14 points, while Chelsea Espenberg had 11 points and five rebounds. Corrado added nine points and four steals and was player of the game.

KSS then lost 67-42 to the No. 1-ranked and defending champion Brookswood Bobcats. Player of the game Abby Cullen led the Owls with eight points and eight rebounds. KSS lost Donaldson in the third quarter to an ankle injury.

In the final game of the weekend, the Owls fell 75-61 to the sixth-ranked Panorama Ridge Thunder. Cullen stepped up with 15 points and nine boards, while Dez Day had 14 points and three steals to take player of the game honours.

Corrado was named to the tournament’s first all-star team, while Donaldson made the second.

Kennedy Dickie rejoined the Owls this week after completing her season with the KSS senior girls volleyball team.

Rounding out the Owls are Grace DeMug, Kasey Patchell and Madi Martens.
