A portion of the Kettle Valley railway bed through Kaleden that is privately owned has been fenced off and posted with “No trespassing” signage.

The section of former railbed is cut in half near its south end by Alder Avenue in Kaleden. The property owner erected a four foot high section of wire fence across the entrance to the trail on both sides of Alder Avenue on December 21. Another section of fence has been put up across the southern and northern boundaries of the property. The fencing extends across a controversial roadway at the north end of Alder Avenue, effectively eliminating through access, even if using  Alder Avenue as an alternate route.

The property  at one time contained a railway siding. It was put up for sale in 2008, and purchased by private interests in December of 2010. The province expressed interest in obtaining an easement through the property for the trail in 2008, but failed to act prior to the land being sold to private interests last year.
