Aldergrove’s Kyle Mitchell, 12, brought a Mini Sprint race car to the Car Show at Tradex last month.
Kyle began racing at the age of six in Quarter Midgets at the Langley Quarter Midgets Association track in south Aldergrove. After many wins and awards he is now active in the North West Mini Sprint Association, driving for Langley-based Marlo Motorsports at Deming Speedway in Washington State.
Kyle drove the Valley Traffic Systems #7 car in the Kasey Kahne Junior Sprint class in 2010 and chalked up nine podium finishes during the season. This was good enough for fourth spot in the season Championship standings.
In addition to his driving duties at Deming Speedway, 2010 was a banner year for Kyle as he completed another great year in Quarter Midgets. He won LQMA Championships in LT 160 and Sr Honda, and was named Intermediate Driver of the Year, for the second straight year.
He finished second in Sr Honda, third in LT 160 and fourth in the World Formula Briggs in QMA Region 9 for drivers in Canada, Washington State and Oregon.
He will once again compete in all three classes this year.
The Mini Sprint season at Deming begins April 8 and includes the Clay Cup Nationals on July 21-23 and the Season Championships on Sept. 24.
Racing at the LQMA track at 26965 – 8 Avenue, Aldergrove, is for youths aged five to 16.
Driver training is underway and there will be a race day this Sunday, March 27, with more to follow in the months to come.
