Alyssa Kyllo was eyeing a playoff berth at the B.C. Junior Girls Curing Championships at the Victoria Curling Club.
Kyllo, backed by third Amy Edwards, second Zetteh Gunner, lead Ashely Nordin and alternate Sydney Hofer, was tied for second at 3-2 heading into their final round-robin games. They faced 2011 Canada Winter Games gold medallist Corryn Brown of Kamloops, also 3-2, Thursday night. They end preliminary play today against Michelle Ball of Williams Lake (0-5) in a 9 a.m. draw. The preliminary winner advances to Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. final, while second- and third-place finishers battle in a 9:30 a.m. semi.
Kyllo, coached by Scott Kyllo and Merry Miller, suffered her second loss Thursday morning, bowing 7-6 to Nanaimo’s Kesa Van Osch (4-1).
Leading by three points after seven ends, Kyllo allowed back-to-back deuces in eight and nine, and fell short with a single in 10.
The North Okanagan rink went undefeated Wednesday, starting with a 10-5 drubbing of New Westminster’s Dezaray Hawes (2-3).
The two rinks swapped deuces over the first five ends, with Kyllo building a 6-4 lead. After trading singles in six and seven, the Vernon skip cracked a three-ender in eight to seal the win.
Kyllo, who curls in the Vernon Super League, then doubled Richmond’s Brittany McAuley (2-3) 8-4, followed by a 9-5 decision over Prince George’s Falon Burkitt (2-3).
They opened the spiel Tuesday afternoon with a 7-5 loss to Stephanie Prinse of Chilliwack. Leading by a point after eight ends, Kyllo held Prinse to a single in nine before allowing a steal of two in 10.
