Labour Day weekend baseball tournament

There was an all weekend Labour Day baseball tournament held in Port Alice.

The Fred Donaldson memorial softball tournament was held on Labour Day weekend, Saturday, Sept. 3 to Monday, Sept. 5, in Port Alice.

Donaldson was a longtime resident of the North Island and was an umpire for many years. The softball tournament, which has been running for eight years now, featured 15 teams battling it out in a round robin to determine which skill level division (A,B,C,D) they’d play in.

After handing out the trophies at the end of the weekend, tournament organizer Jason Roper was quick to say that the tournament “worked out great,” adding that “It was good for Port Alice. It keeps the village going and also the memory of Fred, who was a legend around here. We do it for him to keep his memory alive.”

Tournament results are as follows: In the D division, the Ballerz defeated the Aces for 1st place. In the C division, the Swingers defeated the Storm for 1st place. In the B division, Load Em Up defeated the Totems for 1st place. In the A division, the Blue Sox defeated the Crush for 1st place.
