The weather gods kindly provided a dry afternoon so 15 ladies could play at Lacarya Golf Course on July 10. Conversely, the theme of the day was “Cry Baby.”

For this, “You play all the holes and record your scores as usual,” we were told, “then we throw out the three worst ones and that’s your total for the day.”

Winners with the lowest scores were: Tanya Desjarlais and Madeline Klassen tied for Flight 1, Joan Streadwick was best out of the Flight 2 players, while Isabell Hadford and Hazel Wadlegger had equal scores in Flight 3. With the week’s game sponsored by Rona, each of these ladies receives a gift certificate to spend at that generous store.

Recycling the $10 entry fee paid by all players, prize money was given out in each of the three flights for several events. Carol Hindle, Joan Slingsby, and Abbey Bates all collected for landing their second drive way out there on the fairway of Hole 1; Longest Putts on Hole 3 rewarded Carol, Joan Str, and Hazel, while Larissa Hadley was the only person to collect for KP by reaching the green on Hole 5 with her first drive.

As well, the winner of Long Putt, all flights, was Lois van Damme with Carol having the least putts overall. Yevonne Cline won the Biggest Cry Baby and Most Honest Putter by achieving the highest number in both – not the usual way to win in golf! The Chip In Pot keeps getting paid out, this time going to Kay Knox, but with no takers this week, the Birdie Pot grows. And then, because four more balls now rest in peace in the water hazard on Hole 4, three from Yevonne and one from Joan Str, they receive shiny new dry replacements.

“Is her name on all the tickets in that bucket?” chuckled someone as Larissa’s name was drawn for 50/50 – that’s the fourth time in five weeks.

We thank more sponsors who donate to door prizes: Hazel collected a sturdy-looking bamboo laundry hamper from Fields; Carol (her fourth win of the day!) chose a box of Dilly Bars from Dairy Queen, while Joan Slingsby selected a package containing golf ball, a hat, and water bottle from Aspen Auto Parts.

Other businesses who continue to support us by kindly donating prizes and gift certificates are Painted Turtle, Wells Gray Inn, Fleetwest, Gateway Grill, Pharmasave, Rooted by the River, Mystic Dreams and the Caboose Cafe.
