The ladies in my foursome saw a miracle shot on Tuesday, Apr. 19, during the opening night Texas Scramble. Suzanne Turenne, a fairly new golfer, had been having a bit of a frustrating evening when she stepped up to the tee box on Hole #7. That would be the hole with the deep and forbidding gully. She gave the ball a mighty smack. It rose in the air and came down on the guard rail of the cart path – still on our side of the gully. It took a big (I mean BIG) bounce – over the gully and into the trees on Hole #8. It hit one tree there and then bounced forward to the trees between the #7 and #8 fairways where it hit another tree; bounced onto the cart path and rolled gently on to the edge of the #7 fairway. Doesn’t matter how you get there as long as you get there!
Thirty ladies turned out for the first gathering of the season. I am pleased to say that on the whole the weatherman cooperated with only some light showers. The big downpour waited until all the ladies were in the clubhouse enjoying the food and the company. The foursome of Tanya Desjarlais, Barb Kavanagh, Carol Hindle and Cindy Nott had the lowest score (35) but everyone was declared a winner and received a prize package.
Before prizes were handed out Captain Debbie Rainer welcomed the ladies back; thanked all our sponsors and introduced the sponsor representatives present. She talked about the Hole In One prizes which are a Weed-Eater from Barriere Auto Parts, a two night stay at Nancy Greene’s Cahility Lodge and a Watercolour painting by local artist Bob Stirling.
Short Drives were won by Bev Murphy (Val Della Studio on Hole #2), Suzanne Turenne (Star/Journal on Hole #5), Barb Kavanagh (Barriere Irly Building on Hole #5) and Helen Fraser (Rainer Custom Cutting on Hole #5). The Hole #5 short drives were based on age but those will remain a secret as I have to golf with these ladies again next week.
KPs were also broken down into age groups (ditto on the secret stuff). The winners on Hole #3 were Sunny Lebourdais (Stamer Logging), Pat Carr (Royal LePage), and Leslie Stirling (River Adventure). Those taking prizes on Hole #6 were Sandy Lebourdais (Carl’s Market Garden) and Karen Peterson (Carman & Barb Smith). On Hole #7 Helen Fraser, Bev Murphy, Evelyn Lucas and Jen Amos won the Rest in Peace prizes from North Thompson Funeral Services and Deb Rainer was closest to the tree to win the Barriere Massage gift certificate. Long Drives went to Cindy Nott (Country Store Antiques on Hole #8) and Carol Hindle (AG Foods on Hole #2). Long Putt prizes went to Carol Young (Bodi Mekanix on Hole #1), and Barb Smith (Jul’re by Lynda Enochsen on Hole #2) and on Hole #9 they went to Brittany Bobinski (Barr-K), Tanya Desjarlais (Barriere A & W) and Karen Peterson (Station House Restaurant).
The prizes from Estylo Hair Design, Ron Wallace Trucking and Knight’s Inn were not won on the course so were picked up as door prizes. Thanks also to Chinook Cove Golf for the weekly addition to the door prize table.
All in all it was a great start to what looks to be an exciting season. Ladies’ Night is every Tuesday and you don’t have to be a member of the golf club to take part. Give the course a call if you would like more info.
