The Ridge Meadows ladies rugby team came up just short of a B.C. championship last weekend, with a 22-17 loss against United Rugby club of Tri-Cities.
It definitely wasn’t for lack of trying said club spokesperson Alison Granholm.
“We were missing a few starters and when you are playing the bigger clubs depth of players becomes the issue.”
The game started off with a try by United to put them up 7-0.
The Lady Bruins came back with a try by Sophie Towne to get them close at 7-5 but United closed the first half off with another try to make the score 12-5.
In the second half the ladies of Ridge opened the scoring with a try by Michelle Kieselbach to close the score to 12-10.
United came back with another try putting them up 17-10 but the ladies didn’t give up, with Bri Railain scoring a try and converting it to even the score at 17-17.
With less than five minutes in the tied contest, United went up again, and this time the Bruins had no answer. United won the women’s second division championship, known as the Ged Griffiths Cup.
