Four Williams Lake Boxing Club members — including three first-time fighters — took to the Prince George Roll-A-Dome from March 19-20 for the Road to Glory Tournament Series Silver Gloves Championships.
Taking in their first fights were Tristian Muldrum, Cyle Tugnum and Oaks Harrison, while Harley Mulvahill also saw action on the weekend.
Both Tugnum and Mulvahill returned to the lakecity victors. Tugnum defeated Prince George’s Spruce Capital Boxing Club member Dillon Cruschshank, while Mulvahill downed Edmonton’s Cougar Boxing Club fighters Joshua Fraser and Craig Morgan to win the tournament.
Tugnum, fighting in the 52-kilogram sub-novice division, won a close decision over his opponent.
“I was really nervous,” Tugnum said of his first fight. “I didn’t really notice anything going on outside the ring, but I’m looking forward to it again — it’s exciting.”
Meanwhile, Mulvahill, who fought at 69-kilograms, said it felt good to get back in the ring after fighting his last bout in May of 2010.
“I was anxious to get back in there,” he said. “I got past the first guy, and I felt good going into the second day. But the guy I was matched up with was hard to fight.”
Mulvahill took both fights by decision.
Both Muldrum and Harrison lost close judges decisions, but are looking forward to rematches and getting back in the ring.
