The Langley Thunder came up short in a third-period rally, falling 9-8 to the host Peterborough Lakers in Game 4 of the Mann Cup Senior A national lacrosse championships Wednesday night at the Memorial Centre.

The Lakers built period leads of 3-1 and 7-4 before the Thunder closed the gap with four goals in the final frame.

For the fourth straight game, Peterborough peppered Thunder netminder Brodie MacDonald, a Vernon product, with 50-plus shots, while allowing just 34.

Mark Steenhuis collected the hat trick for the Lakers, who are looking to record their fifth Mann Cup title in nine years. John Grant played the setup man with a goal and five helpers.

Athan Ianucci paced the Thunder attack with 4+1, and Garrett Billings chipped in with 1+3. The teams combined for only 12 penalty minutes.

Game 5 of the best-of-seven series goes tonight at Memorial, with 6 and 7 set for Saturday and Sunday.
