Lakers pick up first win at Langley’s expense

Thunder fall short 9-8 in Western Lacrosse Association action at Langley Events Centre.

A first-period deficit was too much to overcome as the Langley Thunder dropped a second straight game.

The Thunder lost 9-8 to the Burnaby Lakers in senior A Western Lacrosse Association action at the Langley Events Centre on June 5. The defeat dropped the Thunder to 3-2 on the season while the win was the first for the Lakers (1-3) in four tries.

The Lakers scored three times in less than four minutes late in the first period and that proved to be the difference.

The teams did combine for nine goals in the middle period — five for Langley and four for Burnaby — for a 7-5 Lakers advantage after 40 minutes.

Alex Turner and Shayne Jackson paced the Thunder attack.

Turner had four goals and two assists while Jackson had one goal and four assists. Athan Iannucci also chipped in with a goal and three helpers.

Joel McCready and Brandon Goodwin had the other Langley goals.

The Thunder will look to get back in the win column on June 12 when they host the Nanaimo Timbermen at the Langley Events Centre. Game time is 7 p.m.
