Lakers teeing off at provincials

The Pen High Lakers earned a third berth to compete in the B.C. School Sports AAA golf provincials

The Pen High Lakers golf season isn’t over after all.

Lakers coach Robert Gunning learned that the Okanagan Valley had three provincial berths for the B.C. School Sports AAA championship at Ledgeview Golf & Country Club in Abbotsford Monday to Wednesday. After competing in the Okanagan Valley championship, the Lakers finished six shots behind of the second berth.

“It should be a good week and we are looking forward to it,” said Gunning.

Representing the Lakers are Grade 11’s Declan Riddle (Summerland), Cam Davie and Jackson Coates along with Grade 9’s Heming Sola (Summerland) and Jack McLennan. Since the Grade 11s played on the course last year, Gunning hopes the experience will help.

“I think our goal will be to finish in the top 10. We will have to play very well to do it,” said Gunning. “Experience will definitely help our Grade 11’s. The greens are very tough, so you have to try to figure out how best to attack the flags. We will have to be patient, and realize that you are going to miss some putts.

“Regardless of where we finish, it will be a great experience for our players,” he continued.
