Lightning fastpitch squad follows up silver medal in Sooke with gold at Centennial Park

Make that two and counting.

The Langford Lightning under-12 girls softball team earned their second straight tournament medal, rolling over Central Saanich Extreme 13-0 in the championship final Sunday at Centennial Park.

The victory was the locals’ third of the day, following big wins over Victoria Carnarvon to open the playoff round and a 14-3 mercy rule win arch-rival Sooke in the afternoon semifinal.

Langford posted a 3-1 record in round robin play to finish up second behind Sooke, who beat the Lightning on Saturday.

Following the semifinal loss, Sooke went on to drop a 12-11 decision to Cordova Bay in the bronze medal game.

The Lightning’s tournament victory gave them a measure of revenge over their rivals from Sooke, who beat the Lightning for gold in the tournament held in that community a few weekends back.
