Langford gymnast leads Falcon charge at Garden City meet

Emily Schmidt moves up the competitive ladder, teammates pile up medals

Langford gymnast Emily Schmidt added to her 2014 accomplishments this month at the Garden City Invitational meet in North Saanich.

Having won a gold all-around medal in provincial Level 3 at the B.C. artistic gymnastics championships in March in Kamloops, the Falcon Gymnastics athlete moved up to Level 4 Novice (for athletes born in 2000) for the local event and won a gold medal in floor exercise and bronze on beam at the Panorama Recreation Centre.

Falcon Gymnastics, which hosted the meet, had other athletes who excelled among the 250 gymnasts competing from around B.C. and Alberta.

Emma Longbottom won all around in P2 Novice (2001) thanks to golds on bars and floor and silvers in beam and vault. Emily Lyall won the all around in P2 Novice Open (2000) with wins in floor and beam, a second on bars and a third on vault.

Emily Bolink competed in Level 4 Open (born 1999 or earlier) and won gold on beam and bars and placed third in the all-around.

Veronica Chu, took first all-around in P2 Tyro (2002) having won gold in bars and beam and tying for third on floor. Teammate Mia Butcher wound up third in the division, following second-place finishes on vault and bars and a third on beam.

Makena Spanier was consistent, taking third in vault, bars and floor en route to the third all-around finish in P3 Open. Ella Kendler won vault in P1 Argo (2006), while Karley Telford tied for third on bars in P2 Argo (2004).
