Sporting a 3-7 record isn’t usually reason for optimism.
But in the case of the Vancouver Giants, it is.
That’s because two of the Giants’ three wins have come in their past two games, and on the road, to boot: a 5-3 victory over the Calgary Hitmen on Thanksgiving Monday afternoon at the Calgary Saddledome, and a 2-0 shutout of the Edmonton Oil Kings Tuesday at Edmonton’s Rogers Place.
Giants 2, Edmonton 0
Radovan Bondra with the winner 9:02 into the third period, and Tyler Benson with an empty net marker with under 10 seconds to go was all the Giants needed, thanks in large part to a sparkling, 28-save performance by Vancouver goalie Ryan Kubic.
Giants 5, Calgary 3
The Giants snapped a three-game losing skid by taking out the Hitmen.
Benson notched four points and Jack Flaman scored twice to lead the Giants to their first road victory of the season.
Bondra and Ty Ronning also had goals for the Giants.
ICE CHIPS: The Giants have two more games to go on their gruelling six-game trip.
They’re in Lethbridge to take on the Hurricanes on Friday and then head over to Medicine Hat to face the Tigers on Saturday.
The G-Men finally return to the Langley Events Centre this coming Wednesday (Oct. 19) to host the Saskatoon Blades.
Game time is 7 p.m.
