Langley basketball player returning from U.S. for autumn tourney

The NCAA Showcase is happening in Vancouver for the first time ever.

A former Brookswood Secondary athlete is going to the first NCAA basketball showcase tournament ever in Canada.

Louise Forsyth is at the NCAA Vancouver Showcase in November at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

The Vancouver Showcase will feature 20 NCAA games during the American Thanksgiving holiday in Nvoember. Men’s games run Nov. 18 and 20 with the likes of University of Washington, Texas A&M, Minnesota and Santa Clara. The women’s tournament runs Nov. 22-24 and features some of the top teams in the U.S., including the past two NCAA National Champions, Notre Dame and South Carolina to go along with perennial powers Oregon State, Rutgers and Gonzaga.

Forsyth, the former Brookswood star will be making her B.C. homecoming as a second year member of the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be have these NCAA games in Vancouver, and to be able to play in front of my friends and family” said Forsyth. “And I’m equally excited to be playing against Notre Dame. It should be a great game for everyone to see.”

Gonzaga, which won the West Coast Conference last season, open the women’s tournament on Nov. 22 against the defending NCAA national champions, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, giving local fans a chance to see the former B.C. High School MVP play in her home province.

“It’s going to be an incredible week of basketball” said David Munro, founding partner and tournament co-director. “Sixteen NCAA teams and 20 games with some of the best in U.S college basketball. And we are thrilled to have Louise and the Gonzaga Bulldogs taking part in the inaugural event.”
