There is winning a tournament, and then there is dominating a tournament, and that is exactly what the Langley A2 Eagles hockey team did over the Thanksgiving weekend.
The peewee hockey club destroyed the competition, winning all five of their games by a combined 25-4 score in capturing top spot at the Tier II Icebreaker Hockey Tournament hosted by the Seafair Minor Hockey Association in Richmond.
The Eagles faced the host Seafair Islanders in the championship final on Monday in a battle of two unbeaten teams with Langley prevailing 3-0.
“The boys worked hard the whole weekend,” said Eagles coach Tyler Svendson. “It was a complete team effort. Our two goaltenders made the big saves when we needed them; all three forward and defence units were relentless.”
“We have much work to do in the coming months and this was a great start to our season.”
In the opener, Langley beat Campbell River Tyee 5-1 with goaltender Cooper Giesbrecht earning player of the game honours.
Game two saw the Eagles other netminder, Keegan Maddocks earn player of the game as he back-stopped his team to a 5-0 shutout over the Semiahmoo Ravens.
