Equestrian vaulting champion Danae Moore of Langley is heading to the BC Summer Games in Cowichan Valley from July 20 to July 22.

Equestrian vaulting is the sport of gymnastics and acrobatics on a moving horse.

The 12-year-old Moore, who has trained at the Triple M Vaulters in Langley for the past four years, is ranked second in the province at the canter D level.

Moore will be competing against eight other vaulters at the Games.

The riders compete at canter and will be required to do one round of compulsory moves followed by a freestyle performance set to music.

They are judged on technique, harmony with the horse and performance. The horses are judged on obedience, turnout and quality of gait.

Moore, who says her favourite part of the sport is “trying new and difficult moves on the horse,” has been putting in extra training to qualify for the games and leading up to the games.

Danae trains on Buddy, an 18-year-old paint/draft cross but will compete on Matisse, a gelding owned by the West Coast Vaulters from Parksville.
